about

Being from central Appalachia is a unique perspective. Growing up in the mountains of Southwestern Virginia, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina gives you a keen insight into small towns and their suffocating ways of life. The first verse of this song is a list of names Steve has for Appalachia, the second verse is a list of names Appalachia has for him.
If you are from the mountains you know who the locusts are and how they came to strip our land of coal and culture, meaning and mineral and how they are now leaving behind the corpse of a place.

lyrics

the empty prayer
the hollow earth
the blackened tree
the wasted births
come to carry
All that you love away.
I will bear no sons
I will spread no seed
No one to protect
This ends with me
The adversary
The nemesis
The cross you bear
that persists
the shadow cast
the broken bough
That casts you down
always pray for rain
& hope it fucking drowns you
Swallowed by the throat
Of every God that damns you.
I Hope everything you fear is true and
I Hope all that you love Is carried away
